Whats does it mean when a coupon say the fallowing?

what does it mean when a cupon says limit one cupon per house hold but then it says limit of 4 like cupons does that mean that you can use 4 cupon for on item on a single purchase of does it mean that you can use 4 cupons on a sigle purchase for same items can anyone help I am new at the cuponing and would like to better me self thanks
